Nov 7, 2014

Saying For Today: The meaning of prayer for you can be discovered within yourself, but that meaning reveals itself only to those who are deeply committed to prayer and already praying.

Brian K. Wilcox, a Chaplain, vowed Contemplative in the Christian tradition, Associate of Greenbough House of Prayer, and Postulant of the Order of St. Anthony the Great, offers an interspiritual work focusing on cultivating the Heart of Compassion. His book of mystical Love poetry is An Ache for Union: Poems on Oneness with God through Love. Brian integrates wisdom from the major spiritual Paths. May you always know that you are blessed!

You pray in your distress and in your need; would that you might pray also in the fulness of your joy and in your days of abundance.

*Kahlil Gibran

Pray always.

*St. Paul

Prayer is not what is done by us, but rather what is done by the Holy Spirit in us.

Really, I do not know how to pray. I find concentrating on how a hindrance to prayer. In some sense I give myself to prayer, and in giving myself to prayer, I find that sense of being chosen by Something Other. That Other is, however, more intimate than intimate. That draws me into a communion I could not have chosen, if I had not already been chosen. Then, I realize, we are all chosen, and to be unchosen is simply not to have awakened to the Mystery calling the self to find itself by losing itself, knowing, finally, that self was an illusion all the time, anyway. Then, you see the One calling and the One called are One, yet somehow two, too. So, are you called to a life of prayer? Yes, you are chosen. Now, it is up to you to discover what this means for you, and you cannot get that from a book or a teacher. The meaning of prayer for you can be discovered within yourself, but that meaning reveals itself only to those who are deeply committed to prayer and already praying.
